All health starts with gut health. This fact is starting to be more widely accepted, but it’s certainly not new! More than 90% of all diseases today are linked to gut disruption which in turn triggers emotional dysregulation, deficient nutrition, inflammation, toxin buildup, and a dysregulated nervous system. Gut disruption can happen when toxins enter the body through the mouth, the eyes, the nose, the lungs, the skin, or even energetically. We’ve talked before about how health is compromised by allostatic load—the “tipping point” where the body becomes unable to adapt to and recover from stress—and nutrient deficiencies. All diseases in the body have these two things in common: toxic overload and nutrient deficiency. In this book we will take a birds-eye view of what gut health looks like and what gut dysfunction looks like. We will talk about the garden in our gut that we call the microbiome. We will talk about the substances that alter or destroy the microbiome in the gut. And finally, we will talk about the many simple ways to keep your gut healthy for life. Let’s dive in!

But what happens when your body becomes overwhelmed by these stresses? Dr. Pete's desire is to show people how to treat the real problem (STRESS!) and not the symptoms — in this case, digestion!
